Reflections on being in my 50s
One of the people in my TikTok community posed this question to me.
Three Things I Love About Being In My 50s
I must admit, I’ve been enjoying my 50s. It started with an awesome 50th birthday weekend my family threw me. Now 5 years later, despite the ups and downs over the past 5 years, and the fact I’ve been battling depression for the last two years, I’m still appreciative for many things about being in my 50s.
Follow along and let me know what you think.
The First Thing
Though I list this first, I can’t say it’s necessarily a ranking. It’s just the first thing that popped into my head. Perhaps it’s the former fast girl in me.
I still look good. I must admit, I am mindful of the importance of exercise and a good diet so I do try to factor that in as well. I also know I’m blessed with good genes. If you’ve ever seen my mom, you would know what I mean.
Do You Remember This Ad?
I especially feel good about how I look when I reflect on what women in their 50s used to look like when I was younger.
Gen X Women have aged differently!
Have you seen some of the 50 year old women these days? We still look damn good!
The Second Thing
It’s true. I no longer place significant value on what other people think about me. In fact, for the most part, I believe, what other people think about me is none of my business.
The Third Thing
I have learned to set and keep appropriate boundaries. I must say, I truly developed this skill after years of grinding in Corporate America. If you don’t set boundaries, there will be no boundaries and companies will more than happily cross all of them you allow them to cross.
Setting boundaries is especially important online and in my TikTok Community. I routinely remind people what it means to be part of my community and what is and isn’t ok. My community also does an excellent job of keeping trolls at bay.
The Exception To The Rule
There is a small exception. Sometimes, we just like to be silly and messy but not mean. That kind of humor can earn you a Messy Crown!
Can you relate?
Does any of this resonate with you? If so, drop me a comment and let me know your thoughts.
