Believe it or not, you can have absolutely amazing adventures in St. Croix without even hitting the beach. Now, to be clear, that is the primary reason I wanted to visit St. Croix, to explore their many wonderful beaches. I definitely had amazing adventures exploring St. Croix beaches. That will take a separate blog post to do them justice. In the meantime, let me show you some non beach amazing adventures in St. Croix.
Christmas In St. Croix
Our amazing St. Croix adventures are really an offshoot of our non traditional way of celebrating Christmas. Through the years of celebrating Christmas with our family, we shifted our focus away from gifts to experiences. Often those experiences involve travel.
Now that we’re Empty Nesters, we’ve continued the tradition of giving ourselves experiences instead of gifts. For Christmas of 2021, I wanted my experience to be an amazing St. Croix adventure. And so, here’s the story of what we did and the wonderful experiences, outside of the beaches, we had.
First Stop On The Amazing Adventure Tour
One of the places top of my list to visit was Emancipation Park in Frederiksted. It was beautifully decorated for the Christmas holiday. One of the things I can truly appreciate being in the Caribbean is I can see reflections of myself everywhere. Unlike in the mainland US.
As you can see here in this park, this Christmas tree is topped with this charming Black Queen. Not only is she beautiful, her head is wrapped in a colorful scarf. Her African and Caribbean heritage is on full display!
It truly warmed my heart to see this tree and the Black Queen topper. But that’s just a starting point of this amazing adventure in St. Croix!
Emancipation Square
Part of Emancipation Park is Emancipation Square. The plaque you see above honors the history of rebellions of enslaved and ultimately the proclamation of emancipation. It all happened right there in that square.
An Amazing Adventure In History
One of our amazing adventures in St. Croix was learning history about which we had no clue. We barely get taught African American history much less any Caribbean American history. So, I guess I wasn’t surprised to learn the history of General Buddhoe and why we never heard of him. You can read more about him in this Dutch article. You have to read about him in Dutch articles because there’s little to no documented history about him otherwise.
Here’s a video I created about General Buddhoe while we were there.
An Amazing Adventure In St. Croix Street Art
I absolutely loved all the street art celebrating the Carnival and the Crucian Christmas Festival. All of these colorful images are also in Frederiksted. However you can find more beautiful images around St. Croix.
You can also check out my CupofMood Blogs The Breathtaking St. Carnival Images You Sure Want to See! and/or These Amazing Pictures and Videos from Crucian Christmas Festival Will Make Your Day!
Amazing Adventures in St. Croix Food
Since we rented a car for our stay, we had a chance to explore all of the island from one side to the other. In fact, you can read about our visit to the Easternmost part of the US, Point Udal in this blog post. This also gave us a chance to find and try restaurants we probably would have never heard of any other way.
I had to stop at Chocolate Barbeque for the name alone. I mean, really, Chocolate Barbeque. Those are two things I love but I wasn’t sure how they went together. I can tell you, there was no actual Chocolate Barbeque but the food was wonderful. Again, so good, it deserves it’s own post and/or video so stay tuned.
An Amazing Christmas Eve Dining Adventure in St. Croix
We had an absolutely wonderful dining adventure at Blue Water Terrace restaurant on Christmas Eve. The food and the view were magnificent! As part of the view you can see Buck Island Reef. Buck Island is a hot spot for snorkelers because it’s teaming with all kind of interesting aquatic marine life.
An Amazing St. Croix Adventure in Christmas Lights
And yes, even in Caribbean Christmases, there are Christmas lights. These are just some in downtown Christiansted.
An Amazing and Relaxing Adventure in St. Croix
Y’all know I’m a Marriott Hotel girl, through and through. Even if I didn’t win their TikTok contest from earlier this year. You can still check out some of my Marriott Diva posts.
For this trip we stayed at the secluded Carambola Beach Resort. It was a nice resort that was a little slow to update because of the hurricanes and then Covid. Nonetheless, we had a really nice stay there. Again, that would take a whole other post to detail how wonderful that beach experience is. It’s an amazing St. Croix adventure all on it’s own!
What Do You Think?
Would you like to see more from our wonderful St. Croix trip? Would you like to see more of the beaches, culture or restaurants. I have plenty more to share so drop me some comments and let me know what you’d like to see next.
Until next time,
