If you’re like me, I typically start my day with a cup of coffee. It’s part of my morning ritual. Whenever we travel, I usually pick up a souvenir coffee mug to help me reflect on the fond memories of our trip. As I was going through my “Dark Night of the Soul”, I found this to be even more meaningful. (If you’re curious about my Dark Night of the Soul, please check out my About Me page, here).
I began to realize how I was starting my day with a smile thinking about the fun we had at whatever fun travel destination on the cup. Even on the mornings when the best I could do is just get out of bed to get a cup of coffee; I started purposefully looking for souvenir cups or coffee mugs with messages. They helped give me something positive on which to focus, even in the midst of my sadness.
Even though I’m not a big coffee drinker; I would find myself sipping out of the cup hours after the warmth and freshness had gone. I would still take small, slow, deliberate sips of the now lukewarm to cold beverage, as though the good feelings from the images or words on the cup could somehow get into the coffee – so I didn’t want to waste a drop.
That realization turned into a morning ritual to find the cup with the message or image I wanted to take in with my coffee to help set my mood for the day. Sometimes, I was mentally at the beach, other times I was laughing at myself about the accuracy of the cup with the message, “High Maintenance Doesn’t Even begin to Cover It”.
It wasn’t long before I began to look for cups and mug with inspiring words or images as Michael and I would hit garage sales, thrift and antique stores and flea markets. I’ve built up quite the collection now and I’ll share them with you in the #cupofmood section of my blog and on my IG and FB. I hope you, in return, share your #cupofmood with me too!

Awesome idea! Thanks for sharing. I don’t collect mugs (yet) but one of my favorites that I brought into my new office space says “Live Well…Laugh Often…Love Much”. It’s my daily reminder!
