One of my favorite things to do when we travel is to explore the dining that city has to offer. Since I’m no stranger to Chicago, I knew the opportunity for good eating in downtown Chicago, would be extensive. I wasn’t wrong.
Day 1
I flew in early Thursday but my daughter Nik, couldn’t get off work until late. Since it was a rainy day, I decided to just chill at the hotel. It was a pretty easy decision with this view from my room, a chance to just relax and watch tv with no expectations of doing anything else. I couldn’t resist.
I stayed at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. It was a nice Marriott in all fairness, I’m a Marriott girl. Thanks to my decades of corporate travel, I have a lifetime Gold Elite status. However, I currently hold a Titanium Elite status and have been for the last couple of years. Marriott keeps moving the high level, so I just learned about their new Ambassador Elite level. I’m pretty close to hitting this level too. Hopefully before the end of the year, I’ll do a post on my Marriott highs and lows of this year. I’ve stayed with Marriott quite a few nights in many different states and even countries, this year so I have a lot to compare.
Anyway, unfortunately, this Marriott, didn’t offer room service. Thankfully Uber Eats delivered. Speaking of them, you can get $20 off your first Uber Eats order of $25 or more by using my code at checkout. (As always, terms and conditions may apply).
First meal
I ordered from Luke’s Lobster. They had a sampler of their lobster rolls. This is how they looked.
Unfortunately, when they were delivered, this happened.
I was a little put off by this but thankfully, I decided to taste the crab and lobster anyway. I was NOT disappointed. Even without any butter they were DELICIOUS! The flavors were fresh, sweet and delightful. I didn’t mess with the shrimp because it didn’t look cooked enough for me and the butter was cold so I just left it alone. I have to say the crab and lobster more than made up for it.
Friday Brunch
Nik and I set out to find a good brunch to get our day started. If you don’t know, I am a shrimp and grits aficionado. I absolutely LOVE a good shrimp and grits dish! Yes, I’m a good ole Southern woman, y’all!
Literally, every trip we go on, if a restaurant has shrimp and grits, I’ll try them. Nik found a restaurant that served them so we set out to check out the food at Egg Harbor Café.
Their fall drink menu was simply delightful!
I couldn’t resist the Cinnamon Maple Latte.
I am thrilled to report it tasted every bit as delicious as it looked! Now for the shrimp and grits. I was filled with anticipation and optimism after tasting the maple latte. I guess I’ll let the TikTok video I created, do the talking.
Here’s the longer explanation for why I didn’t like the shrimp and grits.
Nonetheless, our morning was off to a good start and we were ready to start exploring Chicago.
Stay tuned for more about the food, the sites, the musical Rent and the exhibit Womanish.
