Michael and I have had an early retirement plan that included extensive travel in the first six months after I retired. For at least the last 5 years we’ve discussed the plan in meticulous detail. We’ve talked about how much to budget for travel in retirement. We researched travel spending in retirement. Knowing how much we wanted to travel, we even researched frugal travel in retirement. So, when the time came for me to retire, there were no questions or concerns about what to do in retirement.
So far, we’re averaging about a trip a week. It’s been fun just hanging out together with nothing but time on our hands. Our first trip coincided with the weekend of my retirement and Michael’s birthday. You can find that post here.
Our second trip was the result of me eyeballing a unique, vintage, signed Lion and Frost dining room table we saw at an antiques store on our way home from Singer Island. We didn’t have enough time to properly evaluate it then, so we decided on a return trip. (Hey, any excuse for another road trip!) I also knew there was a Ritz Carlton in Ft. Lauderdale we hadn’t tried so it gave me another excuse to return to the area.
We had a blast on that trip and I’m excited to share my favorite parts of it. I’ll start with our stay at the Ritz. In future posts, I’ll share our thoughts on the food at the Ritz; I’ll share one of my least favorite parts about Ft. Lauderdale and since you know I love a bath bomb, I’ll show you how the one I tried there worked. The bathroom was plush enough to inspire me to try some of the other new beauty products I brought. I’ll let you know how those turned out too.
In this post, I’ll share our experience at the fantastic Ritz Carlton, Fort Lauderdale. Our recent one-night visit left me desperately wanting a return trip. Though we originally planned to arrive early enough to enjoy the resort, it didn’t quite turn out that way. What had happened was… I got a little carried away with antiquing and before you knew it, we arrived much later than I expected. Nonetheless, as per usual, our stay at the Ritz did not disappoint.
Sanitation
The cleaning and maintenance staff at the Ritz Carlton took great care to clean and sanitize surfaces. They even have a whole video on their process that plays on a loop on the TV when you first enter.
The Room
The room was a nice size with a spacious balcony. You can see the room layout here.
The balcony
The balcony with it’s amazing view was absolutely one of the best features of the room. It was roomy even with the table and chair set that sits in the middle. The view overlooks the beautiful resort grounds, the pool and the Atlantic ocean.
In my opinion, this is the best type of room on the property. A room with this view and preferably, a balcony like this. You’ll kind of feel like you’re on vacation even if you never leave the room.
The bathroom
From the video you can see the bathroom was large with both a tub and a shower as well as a separate commode room. I have to admit, the bathroom was nice and well-appointed but still managed to feel a bit dated.
Nonetheless, the tub was perfect for luxuriating with pampering bath products which I happily sampled from my stash.
I’m sad to say, I didn’t even have a chance to explore any of the resort outside of my room. However, I’m already lobbying my husband for a return trip so I can take advantage of all of the amenities.
Stay tuned for my upcoming reviews of our room service meal and the pampering products I tried.
