This series is dedicated to my GenZ daughter who is becoming an adult from a distance. After getting her degree from UCF in May of 2019,
She accepted a job and moved to China. Initially she was there with our older daughter and her family and my mom. But through a series of circumstances she ended up being in China by herself for about a year.
We were so thrilled when she finally made it home! I created this Tiktok video capturing the moments when we surprised everyone to her homecoming.
Her homecoming was short lived though because Nik is in love! So she picked up and moved to Chicago to be with Peter, who we love!
So now that Nik is in Chicago, setting up house, we have some “adulting” training to do. This has become abundantly clear based on the types of questions I get from her.
I joked about making TikTok videos with adulting tips for her while some of her friends were visiting before she moved to Chicago. I was surprised how many of them said THEY needed those types of tips.
So begins the journey of “Hey Mom! Adulting Tips from Mom.
The texts you see are actual texts we exchanged. Check them out and you’ll begin to see a pattern.
Then there’s the issue of her mail (and some of our other children’s mail too) since they refuse to create their own permanent addresses.
The pattern involves important paperwork. So, where do you start?
Get organized!
Start by getting organized. Here’s a chart to help you think through getting organized.
A few key things about the points above. It may take some trial and error to find a system that works for you. Sometimes that means taking parts of different systems to create your own system.
Keep it simple. Believe me, I’m telling myself that as much as anyone. I am the QUEEN of overcomplicating things. Because of that, I can tell you if it’s too complicated, you’re not likely to keep it.
Finally, find little ways to reward yourself along the way for each step you complete. Then find a bigger celebration after maintaining your system for some period of time. (Don’t make it too long).
Pinterest is a great starting point for ideas for organizing and organizing systems.
Now it’s your turn
Let me know what you think of these ideas and if you use any of them. Have a question you’d like to have answered? Let me know and I’ll try to respond via a post or video.
Stay tuned for next week’s Adulting Tip from Mom.
And now, the perfect #cupofmood
For my CupofMood website and Etsy Shop, I say, there’s a cup for your every mood. So I’ve decided to punctuate each post with a cup that fits the theme. This cup is available in my Etsy Shop and I thought you might find the video funny.
Namaste.

I wish I had these tips when I first started Adulting, but I’m grateful that you are providing them now. Your daughter and I will be Adulting together. Thanks Mom (lol) this will be fun!
Thanks sis! I’m having fun creating the series.
