I’m sure there are many ways you can find joy but I’ve decided to look in unusual places to help find as much joy as possible. As an example, I have a new pastime that typically brings me a little joy everyday. I almost hate to admit, it’s TikTok!
The joy of TikTok
Don’t knock it until you try it. I’ve tried it and honey, I’m on it! Pretty much every day. I find it to be a mixture of some of my old favorite past times, scrapbooking and social media. If I’m not watching and interacting with other people’s content, I’m creating my own.
Check out this recent life hack video I posted.
Joy in location
I’ve learned how to whip out videos at a decent pace and I’m having fun. Now that I’ve learned how to post my TikTok videos, I’ll share them here for those who aren’t on TikTok or any of my other social media platforms. It will also serve as one place to be able to access my videos in one place.
Being the goal oriented person I am, looking at my creations in one place also brings me joy. Kind of like my garden.
Joy in imperfection
Part of my journey to reclaim my spirit is to not fall into my old trap of the relentless pursuit of perfection. I have learned to make peace that I may not look perfect and that’s ok.
From my hair being in whatever stage of the weekly cycle that day, to my often broken French manicure. I am learning to make peace with imperfections and often times, embracing them. Making peace allows me to be more creative and free to share and post freely without worrying about how I look or sound. This video is a great example.
It wasn’t what I was expecting to record but it happened and I was able to not only laugh at myself but allow others to laugh with me. Every time, I look at this video, I laugh and that brings me joy!
Joy in sharing
TikTok has also given me an opportunity to share many of the things I’m doing, seeing and experiencing. From Date Day Ideas, to our love of antiques and thrift stores, I get to create brief videos that can share a little about something as a single video or a lot about something in a series of videos. I love to share my experiences so you can expect to begin to see more sharing through videos.
Here’s a sneak preview of a series I’m going to post about Puerto Rico. My site will have all of the videos and TikTok will have some. Here’s one about Black Lives Matter in Puerto Rico.
Joy in brevity
Finally, one thing TikTok has taught me is to be brief. I’ll carry that over to the blog. While I do love to write, I’ll save the lengthy parts for my book. In the blog, I’m going to try to show more and write a little less. Here’s an example of a recipe video I did for Bacon Hot Dog Burrito. It’s brief but pretty much self explanatory.
Let me know what you think of the new format, if you try the recipe and if there’s anything you’d like to see more or less of.
