You probably have to be an Oldhead to know some of this talk show trivia. But don’t worry, I’ll mix it up a little so most generations can participate. If you don’t know the answers, you’ll learn a little interesting daytime tv talk show trivia.
The Maury Show
Talk Show Trivia that will make you feel old? Don’t worry, I’ll start nice and easy. I started with the Maury Show because you don’t even really have to be old to know the Maury Show and/or what it was known for. But first, a little history.
The Maury Show has been on the air since September 9, 1991. The show officially ended at the end of the 2022 season though it still airs in syndication.
So, Maury’s on the list for both longevity and as an Oldhead talk show. That’s because if you’re old enough, you remember before it was simply the Maury Show to when it was his full name. The show was originally The Maury Povich Show. This was before NBCUniversal cut the name back to the Maury Show.
Most Remembered For
Almost all generations know the iconic saying Maury is known for. Of course, it’s, ” You ARE/ARE NOT the Father!”
I must admit, for a while, the Maury Show was one of my guilty pleasures. I didn’t know how true some of those stories were but they always gave some drama! Honey, we all laughed at the shenanigans of some of the women on the show.
Especially when the woman who had previously been on the show multiples times, still didn’t identify the right father to her child. When those women would take off running and screaming you couldn’t help but laugh. If you’ve never seen it in action, check out these clips below.
The Jerry Springer Show
I’m still taking it easy on you with this Talk Show Trivia. You aren’t likely to feel too old if you remember The Jerry Springer Show. That’s because The Jerry Springer show was another one of those long running talk shows.
The Jerry Springer show ran from September 30, 1991 to July 26, 2018. During his run hosting the Jerry Springer Show, Jerry also worked a variety of other jobs. From 2007 to 2008, he hosted America’s Got Talent. In 2015, Jerry started the Jerry Springer Podcast.
As if that wasn’t enough, from September 2019 until 2022, Jerry hosted the courtroom show Judge Jerry. So, it seemed like for a while, every day he was hustling.
And here’s a final bit of Talk Show Trivia related to Jerry Springer. Believe it or not, at the height of it’s popularity back in December of 1998 there was quite a buzz about the the Jerry Springer Show.
That’s because one week it had more viewers than The Oprah Winfrey Show. While it only lasted a week, it did happen.
Most Remembered For
No matter what other things Jerry did, the Talk Show Trivia most likely associated with him will be the fights on his shows. At some point, the Springer show was best known for the fights.
In fact, when I was giving birth to my daughter Nicole, I was trying to catch the first fight before my labor got too bad. Side note, I didn’t make it to the first fight.
But no worries, here are some of the Best Fights according to the Ringmaster, Jerry himself. And yes, lest you forget, Ringmaster was also the name of the self styled movie Jerry Springer starred in.
Sally Jesse Raphael
You may know Oprah Show but did you know before Oprah there was another woman on the scene with a daytime tv talk show? Yes, its true. Before Oprah and some of the other women in this list, there was OG Sally Jesse Raphael.
Sally Jesse Raphael was an OG Talk Show host. Her show was originally a local half an hour talk show that aired in St. Louis. on KSDK (channel 5). It ran from October 17, 1983 until May 24, 2002.
Most Remembered For
In terms of content, when the show first started Sally covered serious topics. However as the talk show genre changed, so did her content. It moved to more personal family matters such as pregnant and/or out-of-control teens.
In addition to those types of issues, Sally was also known for those famous fire engine red glasses she wore. Just like the ones in the clip below.
Montel Williams
The Montels were having their moments in the 90s. There was of course, Montell Jordan of This Is How We Do It fame.
The Montel Williams Show aired from September 30, 1991 through May 16, 2008. In all, he had 17 seasons and 4,325 episodes during his long-running daytime talk series.
Montel was a former Navy officer, motivational speaker and bestselling author. In the beginning Montel focused on more serious and thought-provoking topics. The show had an emphasis on issues affecting families and children, especially military families.
The Montel Williams Show was nominated for several Emmys. In 1996, Montel won for Outstanding Talk Show Host.

In all honesty, as good looking Black Man with a popular talk show, the talk show trivia was often about who Montel was dating.
During his hey day, Montel married a Stripper/Show Girl, Grace Morely, who had appeared as a guest on his show at one point. But wait, it gets even more interesting.
Here’s some juicy tv talk show trivia. Did you know Montel Williams briefly dated VP Kamala Harris? Yep, it’s true. For some reason, this came out during the 2020 Biden Harris Presidential campaign.
Talk Show Trivia Actually About The Show
Ok, ok, enough juicy gossip. The show itself was pretty good thought it had to evolve to keep up with the changing appetite of the daytime tv talk show viewers.
In later years as the day time talk show changed formats, one of the regular features on the show was self-proclaimed psychic Sylvia Browne. She was a regular guest on Wednesdays to talk about spiritual issues and provide audience readings.
However, there was one reading Sylvia Browne famously got wrong. It was the reading for Amanda Berry’s mom.
