Reclaiming My Spirit

What You Should Know About Our Three Year Journey To Get Care For Our Son

This week has been incredibly stressful as we waited on the outcome of our 3 year battle to get our son into the psychiatric care and treatment he was seeking in June of 2018 when he took himself to the police.

The weekend was very stressful but I kept myself busy by working on TikTok videos about Mikese’s case. Over the past three years, the country’s views and perspectives on mental health have evolved. It was amazing to listen to the dialogue about Simone Biles and her decision. The whole buzz the conversation created reminded me that before Simone Biles and Michael Phelps, there was another standout potential Olympian, who tried to get help. That person was Mikese Morse. I made this video to remind people, he isn’t the boogie man the State Prosecutors made him out to be. He tried to get help to prevent the tragedy. Here’s that video.

Speaking of the Boogey Man

As long as I live, I think I will never get over the orchestrated way Tampa Police Department, the Public Defender and the State Prosecutors colluded to hide my son’s severe mental illness so they could railroad him into the system. Here’s one the most recent video I created on this topic at the time of this blog being written.

I have to say, the video below, an earlier video, drafting Tampa Police Chief, Brian Dugan, into the Liar’s Draft, is one of my favorites. If there were ever actually a Liar’s Draft, Dugan should be a top draft pick.

Clearly, Dugan is definitely not one of my favorite people. Like I show in the video above, he is the origin source of the lie that Mikese intentionally committed the horrific act. It is the lie that started our three year journey. I created this video right after Merrick Garland was announcing he was investigating another Police Department.

My therapy

To some degree, these video are a little like therapy for me on this three year long journey. Sometimes they’re a lighthearted way to call attention to a serious issue, like this video.

The day of the hearing

Neither Michael nor I slept or ate much all weekend. I posted this video before the hearing got started and asked for all the prayer warriors to join in our prayers. Boy, did they ever come through!

I hope to get a transcript or a copy of the Zoom hearing because it is very telling. People who were in court with us and not as familiar with the case, thought the State’s expert witness must have been testifying for our side because it told the clear story.

Her testimony told the undeniable truth we’ve been saying for the whole three years. Mikese tried to get help, was put out of the hospital still in a psychotic state, he was never stabilized and as a result, the tragedy happened.

The truth shall set you free!

We never changed our story once, because the truth doesn’t change. We were thrilled to be able to FINALLY get Mikese freed from the criminal justice system and into the civil system where he can get the treatment we’ve been seeking for almost 15 years now.

A word of thanks!

So many of you have been extremely supportive over the last three years, there aren’t enough words or time for me to express my and our gratitude but let me try by simply saying Thank You and sharing the post from yesterday.

And finally, you can hear the joy and excitement in my voice as I recorded this video as we were leaving the courthouse.
