Michael and I are beginning our journey to unwind from the stress of the last three years. I must confess, TikTok is part of that healing process. I shared this video yesterday morning as we began to consciously unwind from our 10+ years private battle and a three year very public battle . The public path began the morning after the tragedy during the press conference.
We understood the assignment!
The morning after the tragedy, it was clear Mikese was being railroaded when racist police chief, Brian Dugan, boldly and blatantly committed acts of libel, slander and defamation of character against Mikese at the press conference. We knew then, the system that had repeatedly failed us previously had failed us in a major way and put Mikese’s life at risk.
We became laser focused on one thing, getting Mikese out of the criminal justice system. We wanted him to be able to finally get the treatment he was seeking before the tragedy. That became the assignment.
The expanded assignment
If you look back at my blog and social media feed over the past three years, I expanded the assignment. I couldn’t help it when realized there were literally THOUSANDS of other families like ours, dealing with the same injustices and inequities. So I expanded the assignment to keep Mikese’s case and the plight of families like ours, front and center. I call out the numerous issues facing families like ours in this blog post.
The soundtrack to the assignment
When I saw a video using this sound on Tiktok, I immediately thought about our assignment and how a video could help continue to shine a light on the issues families like ours face while poking fun at the people we had to fight to get to this point.
Tiktok has been one small way I use to feel slightly empowered over this behemoth of a broken system that breaks more than it heals. It felt good poking a little fun and showcasing the power of a Mother’s love. But honestly, it feels even better going from saying #freemikemo to #wefreedmikemo! It’s because #iunderstoodtheassignment.
