How it all began
I have to admit. I’m feeling a little bit like a cool mom! I initially started out on social media on Facebook to connect with my kids. Before long I was on Instagram at their urging. That was fun.
After the Great Tragedy, I created a Facebook page, It’s Up To Us to document the struggles we were fighting in Mikese’s case. Last year, I started learning TikTok and created a TikTok account to further extend messages about Mikese.
TikTok changed everything!
Once I learned TikTok, I was hooked! Since I’m a recovering Scrap Book Queen, I found TikTok to be a lot like concise digital scrapbooks. Since my first Tiktok which was about Mikese’s case, I’ve had the honor and pleasure of growing an audience of over 30,000 at the time of this blog being published.
Isn’t TikTok for kids?
Many people think TikTok is a young person’s game but I disagree. I think TikTok is just like the world; what you seek, you will find. The algorithm reflects our viewing and commenting patterns. When I find myself looking at a lot of content that is depressing or scary (even if it’s real life stuff), I purposefully choose content to look at that will make me feel better.
I extend that to creating content that encourages real conversations, typically, in a light hearted way. Since I have a very diverse audience and I thrive on their interactions and funny, insightful comments about themselves, the state of our country and what I call ‘”messy topics” in general.
C’mon ride the Messy Train
I call my main TikTok account, The Messy Train and my followers, Messy People. You’ll have a much greater appreciation for what I mean when you see this viral video.
Not all Social Media gets the same response
I typically don’t share all of my TikTok videos to my other social media accounts because some things just don’t translate well outside of TikTok. I’ve noticed some videos that just do, ok, on TikTok, explode on IG or FB. Here’s a great example.
